This will be the third year James B. Edwards has partnered with LMS to provide this opportunity to our students.  The program will be co-created with teachers at the school so that the classroom curriculum and schedules match with the lesson plans LMS has created. The program lasts the entire school year and benefits all involved; students, teachers, parents, the like.  James B Edwards Elementary School (JBE) has a student body comprised of 33% on free and reduced lunch and of 12% qualifying and being served as students with disabilities.  We seek to fund this program to enrich all of our 4th grade students by incorporating this real world, projects based learning while infusing a lure for exploration in our lavish coastal environment. While STEAM education is the focus (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), the program also teaches soft skills including collaboration, problem solving, and planning.

Specific budget requirements of the project include:

  • materials to build 5 row boats, approximately 100 students altogether
  • tools
  • educational programming supplies

The timeline of the project will follow a schedule rotating classes biweekly. The boats will be completed in the spring of 2020 and will be launched by the students at the 6th annual  Lowcountry Maritime School event that brings all participating in the program together.

This Donate2it project will fulfill the remainder of our financial requirements and aligns with our school mission of global leadership so please give if you can. Further, for every dollar you donate, Donate2it will match your funding to help us raise the overall $5,000 that we are seeking. If we can inspire navigational curiosity in just a few of our students, we’ve positively impacted all of our lives, especially here in the lowcountry.  All aboard!!
