Emmaus House is a local nonprofit feeding breakfast to the homeless and the hungry in downtown Savannah each weekday morning. They also provide laundry, showers and personal hygiene kits. Although there is no typical morning, they usually serve between 175 and 250 meals during breakfast service. They have four employees and a team of dedicated volunteers who make it possible for to take on such an endeavor. In addition to the dedicated volunteer base, Emmaus House relies on local and federal grants, community funding, and private donations of food and paper goods in order to function. They operate on a very tight (sometimes shoestring!) budget to feed their patrons and they do not turn anyone away.
