Five Fish Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit that awards scholarships to Lowcountry families with special needs individuals to provide for therapeutic services, programs, and products that insurance does not cover.   Since our first award cycle in June 2019, Five Fish has provided scholarships to 131 families and 6 special education classrooms for a total of almost $110,000.

As parents of a child with autism, the founders of Five Fish Foundation know all too well the challenges that come with raising and supporting a special needs family member.  They also know that it is virtually impossible to do it alone.  Countless doctors appointments. Hours of therapy. Special diets. Heated IEP meetings. The physical, emotional, mental, and financial strain that is put on the family can take a toll and it can often be overwhelming.

Five Fish was created to help eliminate some of the financial strain these families may feel while trying to obtain necessary therapeutic services, programs, and products that their child or family member needs not only to survive, but also to thrive. While private insurance and Medicaid support some therapies (speech, OT, PT), most are not.  And as you can imagine, they aren’t cheap!  Hourly rates for therapies can range on average from $40 to $100.

Five Fish Foundation bridges this gap by providing scholarships (up to $1,000 per calendar year per individual) supporting such services as equine therapy, music therapy, life skills training, acupuncture, social skills groups, just to name a few, which are not covered through insurance. We support programs that provide opportunities to build confidence, self-esteem, and challenge each individual to be the very best they can be, regardless of any differing abilities they may have.
