$14,730.00 Matching Funds Remaining.
Increased Needs
The American Red Cross is now facing a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during this coronavirus outbreak. In South Carolina the numbers just keep rising. Through April 24th alone, 550 Red Cross blood drives had been canceled resulting in over 15,000 units of uncollected blood.
In addition to the blood shortage, the American Red Cross is also facing an increase in expenses as the continue their lifesaving mission of providing over 40% of our nation’s blood supply. It is estimated they will spend at least $100,000 just in extra cleaning costs in SC over the next 30 days.
What Can You Do
The Daniel Island Community Foundation has set a goal to fundraise a total of $50,000 for the American Red Cross. The Daniel Island Community Fund has pledged to match up to $25,000 so that we can reach our goal.
The American Red Cross has set up an “Emergency Matching Initiative” in which your monetary donation can be TRIPLED! Your generous $1 donation turns into a $3 dollar donation when coupled with the DICF match. All funds donated will be matched a second time by two donors who have agreed to match gifts up to $100,000 to the American Red Cross now through June 1st.
Please consider donating in any way you can. Whether it be a monetary donation or a blood donation, you are making a difference!

We all have to do our part. This is one of the things that we only think about during war and natural disasters; but blood supplies are needed at all times.

Since I do not want to give a blood donation at this time I thought the least I could do was help offset some of the expenses.

After a drunk driver almost killed Jody in 1979, she needed six pints of blood. Thankfully the Red Cross had that blood available!
